Both Ruth Brodbeck the author of Fast Food For Ben and Margaret Derry the illustrator, have a passion for breastfeeding. The aim of publishing this book is to help normalise breastfeeding in our culture. They feel that children of today need to be introduced from an early age to the reality of the natural and best way to feed a baby.
Ruth, a mother of three breastfed children, has lived and worked in various countries. She trained as a Pediatric Nurse before becoming a Midwife, later on also a Childbirth Educator and a Lactation Consultant. Through her work she has been involved with all aspects of childbirth for over 30 years. Ruth works in the community as a Lactation Consultant and Childbirth Educator, and coordinates the local La Leche League group
Margaret has trained as a General Nurse and Obstetric Nurse, Midwife and Plunket Nurse although now works only as a Lactation Consultant at Nelson Maternity Lactation Clinic and has done so for the past 13 years. Her total period of working with mothers and babies has been at least 41 years. Margaret breastfed her two children in the early 1970’s when the normality of breastfeeding was re-emerging. As a part-time artist she paints in acrylics and sells her paintings locally.
We hope you and your children will love this book and enjoy many hours of reading and answering questions.
